A comprehensive and exhaustive setup editor for Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Mickey Speedway, and Jet Force Gemini for N64.

We now release the third version of our Goldeneye Setup Editor/Perfect Editor for Nintendo 64's Goldeneye. Now including Diddy Kong Racing, Mickey Speedway, and Jet Force Gemini, and many advanced features for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.
The new 3 games are not close to as mature as GoldenEye or Perfect Dark, but perhaps with your help, we'll identify the unknown properties on the objects, and we'll get there!

Open an uncompressed file, or start a new file, from the [Game] Setup Files NTSC Backup folder. GoldenEye is one setup file, while Perfect Dark has a setup and a pads file. Diddy Kong Racing, Mickey Speedway, and Jet Force Gemini all use two files: a Primary and a Secondary. Primary files are loaded always, while secondary are loaded in both solo and multi. Diddy Kong Racing is the only one that really uses both. Then open up the visual editor by Edit Setup -> Visual Editor! You have the opportunity to move around the level.
- It is recommended to install to a new folder than Version 2, if you have that installed, especially one that has full permissions on the folders (not Program Files). You still may need to run with XP SP3 compatibility on the shortcut.
- Conversion from .obj and saving projects + resave rooms may be slower than Version 2, as there is more going on.
- V3 uses more RAM than V2, and will likely be slower rendering if Advanced Rendering is turned on in preferences, versus version 2
- All version 2 files should be backwards compatible
- Background conversion of the Jet Force Gemini/Diddy Kong Racing/Mickey Speedway is in the earlier stages, and there is an issue with the volume splitting. Note, that these games start at Room00, while GoldenEye and Perfect Dark start at Room01. Not all bitflags per triangle are determined (different per game), but will be over time, and you can help by trying them in the Replace Texture dialog.
- Not all object parameters are determined, but hex values for them can be typed in manually, so you can help!
- Not all objects can be inserted and the setup work. This is likely due to them being used elsewhere, and not as part of setups. Especially true in Diddy and Mickey.
- The Beta Version of the editor is in a new location from V2, so the V2 grabber will never get a V3 beta.

*Diddy Kong Racing, Mickey Speedway, and Jet Force Gemini have partial background support. The volume splitting only seems to work if rooms are numbered correctly, and they are perfectly checkerboard cuts. These games also start at Room00, unlike GoldenEye and Perfect Dark which start at Room00.
**Diddy Kong Racing supports some import, though it cannot be animated (those indexes are disabled)
***FBX/BVH Support requires Obj2An8 tool and setup:
1) Download obj2an8 and extract objtoan8.zip\bin\x64\Release\ObjToAn8.exe. Copy ObjToAn8.exe to the editor directory.
2) Download the FBX SDK and install. Open the folder C:\Program Files\Autodesk\FBX\FBX SDK\2014.1\lib\vs2008\x64\release and copy libfbxsdk.dll to the editor directory.
3) Run the editor and open the Tools>Preferences window. Set the location for ObjToAn8.exe (which should be C:\GEEdit3\ObjToAn8.exe) and click OK.
It is expected this will be improved over time, through the use of the 3.0 Beta Grabber/Version.

||In room positions mode, click a vertex, then hold this button, and click to move it to this position. UVs of vertex will be best fit planar interpolated.

||In room positions mode, hold this button, then click on three different vertices and it will connect the three into a clipping tile. Click without holding this button to reset. In Object mode, hold button and click twice to make a path set connection. You can click either an object, 00 preset, or the wall to make the connection. Click without holding button to reset. In Portal mode, click while holding key on 4 vertices and a portal will be created using those 4 points. Click without holding button to reset.

||While holding key, if you are in Brush mode in room positions it will use your color choice in the Vertice Coloring tool on the whole triangle, instead of just the vertice, when clicking.
||While in Brush mode of room positions, if using the secondary mode of brush (by pressing middle button) where the brush is Blue, this will use the lighten/darken mode. Press and hold this button and click Middle Mouse button to change between darkening and lightening.
||Brighten selected room.
||Move selection down
||Go to previous room center.

Important - To create a new level from an existing level, you should open the level you wish to edit, then press Tools -> Make Level Barebones. It is NOT recommended that you do File -> New, because you will be missing the path sets that allow guards to navigate a level.
There any many tutorials on the tutorials page, to help start off with editing. It is very powerful, but does take some patience and learning to start doing advanced things. I'd be happy if anyone using the editor created tutorials and I will add them as they come out.
Guard Editing / Matrices
Main easiest to use feature of the new displaylist editor, is the ability is to enable Z-Buffer for transparent surfaces, so they can be ordered automatically, unlike base GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Just adjust the Render Mode flags preset to AA ZBuffer TriangleAlpha. There's of course way more advanced stuff here for expert users too.

| I just got a new pc and I'm having a hard time to get the setup editor to open up because of an issue with my graphics drivers. I tried downloading the directx 9, but that didn't work and that's obviously not the right one I need. Does anyone know of any other directx drivers I can download to see if they work for the editor? I have an HP windows 10. If anyone can help, please let me know. Thanks!|

| Without touching the volume, everything sounds fine. It was a ripped midi from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky and I was only lowering the volume of the strings. I don't know if lowering the volume with the slider causes the channel to raise its volume. I only use anvil studio for editing midis.|

| Okay for some reason when I turn down the volume for a channel and import it into DKR, the channel becomes loud all of a sudden. I only imported a ripped midi from a game and then for some reason the volume decided to amp up when I lowered it (not like lowering the volume of a note, but by using the volume slider).|

| I wonder in the future, the editor could get an option to set the master volume for the midis. It would totally be a great thing to have if the music is too loud and you don't want to go back and forth to adjust the volume of every track.|

| Yes. Go to Tools->Game Configuration and load the ROM with the files. Find the files you want, and save them. Then you can use those.|

| Hello, I have a big problem, I think I lost my files. So, here it goes:|
Before I reinstalled Windows 10, I have backupped the whole GEEdit3 folder on my USB, the emulator and the edited ROM.
After reinstalling, I had some errors that caused me to reinstall the GoldenEye setup Editor.
I put the important files from the edited level back, overwriting the original. But for whatever reason the original unedited level (Runway) starts.
The edited ROM is working correctly thankfully.
How do I get my edited stuff back?
Is there a way to extract the ROM and its files (maybe inject?) to restore them as the project files I was busy with (Those LrunZ etc thing)?

| I can recognize it now. It was another instrument that made me think that the calliope channel did not have the 23 volume in the game. Also can a max note be over 7F? I haven't tried it yet and I have a feeling it might cause a small problem in my rom?|

| Is note volume velocity supported for the editor? I have two calliope tracks that I merged together in one. One the tracks I copied has a volume of 23 and the other has 63. When I played it ingame, the 23 volume track is still as loud as the 63 one.|

| Apparently codes that affects the adventure mode such as the amulets make the hub invisible. Perhaps it has to be the Wizpig cutscene that triggers this? I mean it affects the hub area so that must be the cause of the problem. Here is what I mean. Also the skybox can change too if you go in and out of the other areas. | Thank you for the code. Man these original gameshark codes are really broken and I don't why they're there. I had to do some trial and error to fix the instrument. Mostly I had to import some of the key values from another game that uses the same rate and shows its data for the instrument. It's weird how the lower the key base is, the higher the note becomes and vice versa. | If your instrument is stuck at one note, sounds like you didn't edit the range (Key Min and Key Max, Vel Min Vel Max, etc). Compare to a working instrument.|

| I really hate these gameshark codes that are within the Diddy Kong Racing roms. Most of the times, they don't work at all like the "all levels completed" cheat. It would work sometimes, but the hub turns invisible making the rom somewhat broken. At least the collision is still there, but it's still annoying. There must be an actual code so I can replace all of these unusable ones.|

| Okay so when I start to import a new instrument into DKR, the instrument is stuck at one note in the game. What causes this to happen? Also is there like a plugin that fixes the slight pauses for Rareware games? I record the music from it (as in video form, not saving it as a .wav), but the slight pauses makes it somewhat difficult to hear because of it. Just a little sidenote; I don't like overwriting the rom everytime I import something new. I just want the editor to automatically save it so I don't have to struggle with file explorer since I'm like either in my DKR folder or somewhere else.|

| Maybe it wasn't a issue at all. I thought that one of the channel offsets will give you the loop depending on where the first note plays at. At last now I can find the looping point when I add a marker to the midi. Thanks Subdrag. Also maybe in the future, will there ever be a little fix for importing midis because every time I change the loop start in the editor for a midi that is already imported, the loop does not change. It only applies if I reimport the midi.|

| It should be right when you find the time offset using parse ge binary mid to debug text, and use absolute time specified at marker spot. I never had an issue. |

| Is it normal that the offsets for a channel does not give the looping that I want? I thought I would see like a "loop start" at the top of the text file when I add a marker into the midi and then convert it into a bin. Because I thought for example, channel 6 is where my music loops at. The offset value is 00000504. The actual looping was at 0000132E. I did not see any offset that was higher than 00000FDC which was the last offset I saw at the bottom of the last channel. |

| Hmm, I'm not aware of one. But what I used to do was:|
Tools->Extra Tools->Midi Tools->Parse GE Mid to Text File (of the bin created after import). This will show the midi imported into GE format and have all the time offsets of each note, etc. I used that to find the correct loop time.

| Hey Subdrag. Do you know an online time to decimal/hexadecimal converter that will get me the loop point of a midi into either decimal or hexadecimal for music looping? One day, I was making a port in DKR and I stumbled upon an online time converter where I can grab the loop point time from Anvil Studio and paste it onto the converter to get the value I need. I do not remember the converter unfortunately, but it has to deal with seconds and milliseconds.|

| Yeah, normally it's VADPCM compressed, but DKR and GoldenEye also support raw, which means uncompressed 16-bit PCM sound. It takes up more space, but they only both use it for very small sounds to not lose detail.|

| For some unknown reason the editor stops responding when I try to import a sound into DKR and when I at least try to change the sample rate too. I do not know why it causes this, but I'm sure this did not happen when I never updated the editor to the latest beta version. Importing sounds worked before, but now the editor crashes when I do so.|

| Just going from memory Doors and some other things were scaling correctly but crates, bottles (Facility), the guard meshes representing their starting positions, and some other things weren't. They're positions all changed uniformly as the world got larger, but they didn't scale.|
I was assuming scaling everything would work like Max or Blender. Objects will not pass through the clipping when scaled?

| Scale setup file is the only way - objects. It seemed ok, what is not enlarging properly? You also need to scale clipping so objects can find their heights.|

| In Room Positions mode, right click, and choose Move/Scale/Rotate Room -> Inverse Scale in Place. Now the default value is level scale, so will put level at 1.0 after. If you want can use your own values. Then export to .obj afterwards|

| To get by 1.0, scale by the level scale (it's a division, so a scale of 0.1, is 1/0.1 = 10). The editor supports that, either by exporting already scaled, or scaling in place in room positions mode under one of the room submenus. Then if you want to go past there, can do another 0.8 to make a little bigger. |
Those buttons in stage configuration go to that particular file in the file list, for easy import of it quickly.

I was hoping to export them all to Blender at a slightly larger scale (so I don't have to try to scale them each separately) yet have them all a little larger than they are. Can I just set them all to .8 or 1 or something?
Also, I was looking at Stage Options in the Game Configuration Tool, There are some buttons next to the third through seventh drop down text boxes, they don't have anything written in them and I'm not sure what they do. I clicked a few out of curiosity. I didn't mess anything up did I?

| Me again, and this time with a Editor bug, Subdrag. Apparently (this happens only to me), whenever i make a text digit in the text editor to make a briefing, it doesnt appear to be at the briefing ''Objective didgits''.. Example: say im choosing file ''LJunZ'' which is Jungle. And at didgit 04(4804) i type in ''lol''. Then when i go to 4804, it's not there. This happens with all text files. This seems like a bug, or else i don't know. |

| .set and .bin both work interchangly, extension doesn't matter. There's a preference in editor preferences on which extension you prefer. Do you have latest beta editor? When you opened, did you choose right quick convert and view level? Try saving and opening one yourself to learn and understand process better. |

| Thanks, i already fixed that problem. But i have another issue which is VERY BAD.. i'm trying to make a level so Carnivorous is helping me. He fixed a couple of things in my level. So after he fixed some things he send the .bin file in the Discord chat. So i open uncompressed file, but then i noticed: the filetype is ''.set''. So i was like ''Oh my god, what the hell..''. After 2 hours i had an idea of reinstalling the editor and guess what, the filetype changed to .bin. So that's solved. But for some reason, everytime i open the bin file that Carnivorous send me, my editor crashes. I told him ''maybe its the file'' and then he replied: ''well it works for me''. So then i began to worry. Please help, Subdrag. Maybe it's an editor issue which you can fix(or not)!|

| If you right click in Visual Editor, in Objects mode, there is an option Output to Obj. You can output presets and things there.|

32bit versions WORKED!
I gotta manually patch blender to get it to import properly unless there's another way I don't know of, but YES! Its working, I'm getting it to export each of the file types!!!! Thank you so much, I wouldn't have thought the 32bit versions would work correctly on my system!
While I've got your attention, 2 more questions for you...
1. Is it possible to export levels with the boxes that represent action blocks so I have their locations in the exported file?
and 2. Have you ever wanted to play Goldeneye in VR with motion controllers? Cause I hope you'll try it out when I'm done!

| Do you get any error message? Can you please try running Obj2An8 manually. Usually if there is an error, it will manifest if you just try and run it (the one you pointed to). You may be missing a redistributable. If Obj2An8 does run, you can just try using it to convert obj to FBX or DAE. Editor is just calling cmd line of it. I suspect your obj2an8 isn't running though and that's why not converting.|

| Using Windows 8.1 running editor as administrator. I see all the options for export but only end up with image files. Exporting the animation as .obj gets me all the same image files, a .mtl file and an .obj file consisting of the correct mesh in the default position (arms and legs straight out to the side) with no bones, no animation.|

| Thanks for the speedy response. Yes I am following the instructions. ObjToAn8.exe is in there already as is the FBX dll... I have tried the originals and the ones in the dl links provided by you. I only get image files, no mesh, no rig. GEEdit3/ObjToAn8.exe is there and I have added the location in the preferences panel and clicked OK. This is my 3rd time installing and doing all of it.|
The only thing I didn't add is FFMPEG, that wouldn't be the issue would it?

| If you are using Quick Convert/Inject ROM, it just uses the base ROM set in preferences. So if you inserted text in a ROM different than that, every time you quick convert, it will be that input ROM plus your change. If that isn't the one with text, it will revert back. Or you can just use project mode, that will be fine, or use Tools->Game Configuration to inject file to output ROM.|

But something horrible happened. I think I broke it.
I had the only Action Block of 0401 (?), so I decided to delete it so I could start fresh on the new one from the tutorial.
I wish I never deleted the Action Block. Now I can never write to my ROM... Even after restarting the editor.
How do I fix it? And perhaps learning programming Action Blocks.

Another problem is that the game freezes when all objectives are completed, just right as you complete any objective as your last objective. It doesn't matter if it's A, B or C.

| I've been gone for a long while, but I finally got the Goldeneye Setup Editor working again. I just had to download the Direct X Runtime program which installs the dlls for the editor (ex. d3dx9.dll along with other dlls for Direct 9). I'm glad I noticed this because this editor only uses Direct 9 and not Direct 11. So that's why it didn't work before, but now it does|

| You can't do it in visual editor, but you have to do Edit Setup - Edit Object. Then when have an object, you choose embedded object, and pick the object you want to embed the gun into.|
For the plane, you need to change the object type to 27 in visual, for it to be a plane type.

Second thing is, why is the Airplane for my Runway level invisible when I play it on the emulator? It has collision and everything. The original ROM shows the airplane just fine. In the editor it shows fine too. What is the problem?

| Can you try a full reinstall? Delete the current folder, uninstall, and reinstall. Maybe that is the issue, it wasn't a complete .exe download? I've heard that happening to people. You can also try zipping your version on working computer, and copying over, as that will work fine (though just won't have startup shortcuts).|

| Hey Subdrag it's been a while since Ii asked a question here. Recently I am now going to use the setup editor for DKR on my Windows 10 laptop. I downloaded and installed the direct 9.0c and the VS2008 Redist (repaired btw), but when I launch the editor it gives me this error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). | There are two buttons you can click to delete debug data. One mentions J Text, I believe. Click on those to open up more room in the ROM, and then save. That should help everything to fit.|

| You do need Edit -> Visual Editor to open model editor first. Also, animation editor, you can export to FBX if wired up obj2an8. Or maybe model you picked isn't centered, try the different view buttons.|

| Your mission is lacking the AI Path Network. This series of pads link throughout the level, allowing the guards to navigate the environment. Without it, the game suffers massive slowdown while they attempt to process the surroundings and where Bond has disappeared to. If you're using a solo level for your custom mission, you should begin by choosing the original mission (like Facility), and using an option to make level barebones. This removes everything but the path network, doors and maybe glass (been awhile since I used it). Then use that as your base.|

When I put a guard, and I test it in the game, everything seems to go normal (I have a solo spawnpoint set ofcourse)
So, I walk up to the guard, sees me and shoots me, that's normal.
But when I get out of view from the guard, the game starts to lag HORRIBLY at 2FPS for a few seconds, and it's everytime when I get out of view from the guard. Why is that?

| I'm not sure if it's compatible with Sketchup...not sure that it preserves the naming or groups properly. But in Edit Model, essentially you export whole .obj (to fbx), import to a modeller, do changes, but keep the groups/names same, export to fbx, then import whole .obj (choose the fbx) in Edit Model to get the changes. It's probably worth it to try just exporting, then importing to another character slot just to see the basic editor process. I really do not know if sketchup can do it right though...it does weird things to groups.|

I don't know how to inject the new model into the rom, nor do I know to fix the coordinate issues that are spewed out as an error.

| It looks like whatever modeler you use is adjusting the images to be in a folder, and not the original names. If they're not the original names, you'll need a lookup texture file looking like, one per line:|
Also, make sure all images are in the same folder and are no folders for obj.

| Im having problems with the model importer.|
I export the singleplayer joanna hands model (Which is Hands0058.obj i think),
edit its textures, reimport (and get a coordinate error or smth), then a couldnt find Hands0058/_1.bmp texture error, and no changes are done to the rom at all

| You could basically make a new FPS using Perfect Dark as the base, yes. Levels, props and weapons can all be made from scratch,though characters are more complicated right now. Your own textures can be placed into the image bank, and custom music created. Animations are also now being more understood. It would be a lot of work, but it is all possible. Playing on console depends on whether or not everything was handled correctly.|

| FBX SDK is not used by editor, just obj2an8 (called by editor). If you use bvh, or never use FBX, don't need that, but use the obj2an8 one that says ReleaseNoFbx.|

| Glad you are enjoying the editor, I hope you make good use of it! I feel like you could speed up the bosses, but I personally don't know to at this moment, but maybe if you mess around you can. I'd guess it's checkpoint object related, but I don't know. That's one of the things be great to find out. The beta editor slowly pushes features out, although I do take editor requests, and it is great when others do research and give me new improvements I can add to editor.
I don't think you can add midis, as right now it doesn't expand the midi set/shift ROM (though it's not impossible much later), though I guess if midis are unused, you can replace them, and change a level to the new tune.

Is there a way on how I can incrase the speed for bosses, so it can be like a bit more challenging to win against them? If in the future, can you add more tracks in Diddy Kong Racing by adding new slots labeled "Empty Track Slot" and music labeled "Empty Music Slot" so I can have more music and each track can have their own individual music instead of having two or more tracks playing a same theme? For the last question, when the editor gets updated soon, will there be more features for the game?|

So far I have: SM3DW Beach theme over Pirate Lagoon, SM3DW Lava theme over Hot Top Volcano, DK64 Fungi Forest Nighttime over Haunted Woods, MP2 Bowser Land over Wizpig Race, LoZ TP Sacred Grove over Whale Bay, MK64 Koopa Troopa Beach over Crescent Island, and a recreation of Spaceport Alpha over Spaceport Alpha.|

| You may want to stick to just injecting setup/pads files if you're not touching the background, since project mode reoutputs clipping and background. You can try taking your current setup/pads, and just injecting that only in 39850 Game Configuration, and see if you still have that issue. If so, there may be something changed accidentally in actions? For PD, your start point seems to sometimes be your position at end of the pre-recorded fx, not your start point pad.|

| Basically I'm trying to make a hack of Perfect Dark which makes the game harder. I edited Defection and Investigation successfully. (By adding more guards) But when I edited Extraction and put it into my PD ROM, It starts me outside the dataDyne building and sends me falling to the ground and then eventually dying. This happened on Agent and Special Agent, however when I tried it on Perfect Agent, it killed me instantly. (And I did not adjust the start position. I still had it set to Pad 25A.) And for some odd reason this also effects Defection when I start that level it put's me in the correct start position but I instantly die and fall through the building. (This happens on all difficulties. This also happens even if I don't have an edited Defection.) However It doesn't affect Investigation, so I'm glad everything isn't broken. I even tried to redo Extraction but still no luck. I put the projects in the ROM by selecting "Inject Project into ROM". I create a new project for every level I edit. I'll see if I can send you the projects on the forms, And I'll try to put gameplay of that on the forms as well. The emulator I use to test the ROM is Mupen64++ Beta 0.1.3.12 (Normally I use Project64 2.1 to play N64 emulated games, but unfortunately Perfect Dark hacks aren't supported on that emulator.)|

| I quick inject the rom and i didn't work. I know i didn't add anything that causes the crash because i've been paying attention on what I've been doing, and i have been testing it often. What you said about the dual weapon thing, i never had to add 0E objects on object editor before, basically all i did was give the guard two weapons and after i get them, i get two weapons, on version 2.4 though.|

| I'd use Quick Inject (F7) instead of Quick Convert. Try that. If that fails, then perhaps something you added caused a crash, be careful and test often. I think you need to add 0E object in object editor, "Link Collectible Objects", to make it a double gun on pickup.|

| I need help please! My first problem is that I cannot dual wield weapons when i kill a guard that carrys them or pickup the same weapon that i already have. My second problem is a big one! While i was editing my level, I quick convert it and started to test it out and play it. When i added more stuff in my level, i quick convert it again, and then start it up on my emulator. When i picked the level that i was editing it wouldn't load, all you hear was the music in the level and seeing a black screen. Is there any fix to it? I never had this problem before until i install the setup editor on my new computer.|

| The key object has to have special bitflags in the object, in the object editor. I generally copy them from one of Rare's dropped keys from any level, then it should stop crashing.|

| It works fine on earlier operating systems. The program is targetted to Windows 98, it may be the reason require admin in Win 8. Since we have Win 98 users, I'm not inclined to change it yet. Also, don't install to C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\ or change permissions on folder.|

| It says no errors found. I put in Activate Path and JAL to function "wait for player detection", but it freezes even when I change the action block. It works fine when I use one of the default action blocks for the guard.|

| i got the program but now when i try to start it it says "The application or DDL E:\\roms\\other rom related stuff\\goldeneye editer ver 2\\d3dx9_30.ddl is not a valid windows image. please check this against your instalation diskette" but this is after i tried to move the ddl out of the cabnet i found it in because i tried it with it still in there and it said the same error i posted before. if i need to start fresh i have a back up incase i mess up the editor beyond repair just incase if it help in the future.

| They were actually part of the background file (level). You'd have to replace an object using Edit Models tools if you want a bed, from a bed model.|

| It lets you pick from the visual images (jpgs) of all the images. 00action made the pics. So you don't have to use name, can see pics, and also see organized by category. Try it out.|

Frist you need to get directx9 and then when you get your setup editor when your installing the program you will see Microsoft VS2008 Redist

| It's not supported by the editor, but it is supported to rip all binary files via GEDecompressor. Those just give by address, they're pretty close to GE NTSC, 89F700 is Ump_setupameZ and they should go in same order as in setup editor.|

Assuming I were able to acquire a Goldeneye NTSC-J ROM, would there be any way that I could look at it with this editor? Or is there some sort of tool I could use to generate the files necessary to open it with the editor? I was hoping to see if I could find any differences between NTSC and NTSC-J that I'm not already aware of (Caverns 00 body armors, Silo cinemas, seemingly more powerful auto-aim). | This is a really good editor, but I have to ask.. I keep getting problems like certain PD levels being too big when I try to playtest them, and when I try to do xdelta patching, it won't detect the expansion pack so I can't play the single player levels, which I had edited a bit. Then again, I can't find an xdelta patching tutorial for the PD levels, and since there is no help file that came with it.. yeah. Why isn't there a help manual with it anyway? Just curious.|

It's very tedious and I've been wondering if there is an easier way. I asked on shootersforever.com but I have had no response. Does anyone here know if there is an easy way to distinguish and locate the dumped textures from Goldeneye to retexture them in high resolution? | I'm having some issues with a few Perfect Dark levels. All of the area 51 levels (UsetupextractionZ.bin, UsetupinfiltrationZ.bin, UsetupmaiansosZ.bin, and UsetuprescueZ.bin) freeze if I change to Clipping, Portals/BG, or Room Positions mode and right click in the visual editor. Also UsetupwarZ.bin, and UsetupskedarZ.bin crash as soon as the visual editor loads. All the other PD and GE levels seem to work fine most of the time.|

| You need to insert a 2E camera point, rotate it how you like, then use action blocks to trigger it. Also there's a toggle in the particular action, 1 means always point at Bond, 0 means use the 2E point's rotation.

| Alright, I use windows XP if that means anything. Now, here is what happens, I place a guard and turn it in the right direction. Then i attempt to resize it and the editor crashes. I can place other objects including guns without the editor crashing, and if this means anything, when i place gun bunkers it crashes right away. Can you tell me how to fix this?|

| "george048"-First, DirectX 9.0c must be installed, whether on Vista or XP. Next, if that still doesn't do the trick, download the DLL directly and place it into the same directory as the GoldenEye Setup Editor, usually C:\Program Files\GEEdit2\.

| Moving Elevator: This isn't possible in GoldenEye. Atleast, not at this time. The tiles on which you walk cannot move, so there's no way to elevate your current height. Perfect Dark allowed players to stand on objects, making elevators possible. But in GoldenEye, you can only stand on the tank. It'd take some serious work to get something like that going. Currently, we aren't able to do it.|

| The proximity thing's a little weird - I recommend looking at some of the levels to see how it works (for example, the Hostage Negotiations in Streets or BMW's library).
To have a guard spawn when an alarm goes off, there's an action block to check if alarm goes off, and if so, you use the BD spawn guard command. See Rare's levels or BMW's library for example.

| Did you, by any chance, move or delete all L__E.bin and UBrief__Z.bin files in the main GE directory? Or did you change your active directory in preferences? It uses that directory to locate files, so if you moved that dir or moved the files, there won't be any there.|

| Well, to clarify after i export the edited text file LdamE uncompressed.. Theres no option to save my settings or anything... just the x so i close the window and bring up Edit Briefings.
All the options are blank including Filename: so I can't choose UbriefdamZ or anything at all. When I go back to edit text everything has resseted and I have to import the LdamE so that I can see the text again.. but then I close it.. rinse repeat.
Ive been working on this level all night and I know ill prolly be waiting ages to get a reply... which sucks because I cant find info about this anywheres..|

| Hey I just started using this and the first time I put a guard in the Dam and made a guy patrol all the way from the beginning of the truck to where it stops, and for the most part it worked.
I accidently coded him to not shoot if he sees bond so there i go to correct it..
Now no matter what i do to the Dam level, add 1 guy to walk.. and it freezes before it actually begins on Project64. However, if i start up my normal rom of the unhacked 007, the dam works fine. Any help PLEASE?|

| Convert ROM is to play the ROM yourself. Make IPS to send to others. Apply IPS to play others levels.
Taka - do you have path presets (little green orbs)? I would say try it on a simple level first, then when you've mastered it move it to yours.|

| It means you have a really lot of types of objects. It's a bit tricky, but do Tools -> 21990 editor, choose your ROM you made, click stage options, pick your level, then increase -mt and -ma only a tiny bit. Like say raise mt 100 and ma 50. Keep inching them up, see if it helps. You will need to click Write ROM when you are finished to test it out. Make sure if its 1P or 2P or 4P you pick the right choice, if given an option.|

| GoodN64 can't verify these roms, mostly because they've been hacked ;*) It only applies to original rom images.
Secondly, guards are peculiar. In order to move properly there must be path data present and something else called pads. If you added them to a multiplayer stage, most likely they won't work at first. You must either build or work from sets made specificly for each level. In this way, they can see where the player is and don't lag the game to snot.|

| I am running on a Vista, and I DL-ed GE editor 2.2. The editor crashes every time I try to open it, and a popup indicates that the files "d3dx9_31.dll" was not found, however it is in the "GEEdit2" file, and I never deleted or moved it.

| Hey! That was MY blog that "a guy" found that entry in. Some paraphrasing's been done here, though. Also, Zoinkity, the purpose of my writing that piece was not to give a generalisation, roughly equivalent to "it sucks" -- I've seen videos on YouTube of what the programme can do (Dragonsbrethren's Silo, for example). The idea was to say that it needs a great deal of simplification if beginners want any hope of using it. Maybe not in the application, itself, but at least in the documentation. If action blocks and their purpose for existing are explained in greater detail (since it seems that the entire game relies heavily on them), perhaps more people could understand how to use the editor. | I'd contend that of all the N64 editors this one's about the only one that isn't a total utter nightmare to use.
You don't need knowledge of C by any stretch. The closest thing is the action command thingie, and if that's a nightmare it's my fault for not providing enough info on building the stuff easily. Ideally we'd have an interface more like the compiler 'Inform', used to construct text-based adventures. Although actions are an important part of stages, they aren't necessary. Standard guard actions can be handled entirely by the basic actions already preloaded.
The setup editor was originally designed to place, move, and replace objects in the stage. It does this remarkably well, using a point-and-click interface. It should be no problem making a few guards, putting stuff in, and having at the very least an Aztec-ish level. Even most standard objectives - blow this up, enter room, etc. are really easy to set up.
Having a fairly intimate knowledge of this stuff I can say not just a good deal, but most of the complexity of the hacking necessary to do this stuff is completely masked from the user. For instance, you don't need to worry about the order objects appear to keep them from borrowing attributes, or interlinking table entries, or recalculating pointers to compensate for the different sizes, data types, etc used in all the different objects. Just knowing what direction something really is supposed to face is a huge advantage over hex editting the snot out of the stages.
That said, more of the complexity can be masked. We could, ideally, eliminate the need to do float conversions altogether, or set all scale modifiers to use decimal percents, or a dozen other little additions here and there.
I guess the point of this defense is that there wasn't much of anything constructive to the criticism. Just, "it sucks". I'm guessing most of the issue has to do with the utter complexity of the action block editor, which again, isn't nearly as bad as it could be. As for that, I'll set to work on a system to simplify the editing, then pass it to Sub.|

"A modding group called the "Rare Witch Project" has released a programme called "GoldenEditor 2.0", also known as "GoldenEye Setup Editor". I downloaded that programme in an attempt to make a nifty new stage for GoldenEye 007. The only thing I could do was to place objects in the level and move the camera about. In order to actually make the level do anything, one requires extensive knowledge of the programming language, C.
To add insult to injury, the programme's creators have written all of the documentation in a way that only computer programmers, who have spent seven years at university, mastering videogame creation languages, could understand. The most basic of the tutorials they provided made passing references to bitflags and byteflipping, as though everyone in the world knows what those things are.
Now, one could argue that programmers are the only people who care about videogames enough to want to edit them. Untrue. I know many people who would jump at the chance to make their own thing for a videogame -- it may not be the entire game that they would make, but just editing a level would be quite sufficient. They're not computer programmers -- they don't know the difference between the X-axis and the Y-axis... blimey, some of them can't even tell a calculator from an abacus!
I suspect that a lot more people would be interested in modifying games if they could understand how to do it."

| Same as Rare, we use clever tricks ;) You will have something in action blocks like "If Bond within X units of Guard, Guard runs to Preset YYYY. If Guard Within Z Units of Preset YYYY, set alert. You can also have him do an animation at that time.|

| Whenever I try to "Open Uncompressed", I get an error message -- "GoldenEye Setup Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close." If I try to load things any other way, I get other kinds of error messages, just nothing that shuts the programme down.
I suspect it's because I've got a video chipset, rather than a video card. Are my suspicions correct? Or is there a different reason?|

| I'm having a problem, too. Whenever I start the editor, I get a message that says, "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_28.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Would re-installation fix it, or will I need to do something else?
FTR, I installed the VC++ redist, and dxdiag says I have DX9.0c.|
